Compasses
(14)In today's over-technological times, digital compasses and various GPS devices are mostly used for field orientation, but not so long ago, the classic compass was used for field orientation. The beginnings of the compass go back to ancient China, where it served as a positioning device for feng shui, until much later it was used for orientation in the field and especially at sea.
The products of the Finnish company Suunto are well known in our country, this company produces quality clocks, professional equipment for the field for climbers, divers and for hiking, Suunto compasses are known for their accuracy and reliability. The German companies Herbertz and Mil-Tec offer, among other things, compasses in a lightweight plastic design, but also more massive, closing and durable.
Orientation in the field using electronic devices is simple and fast, but not everywhere a signal is available and it can happen that the source - the battery runs out, then a problem occurs. The classic compass does not need power and works without problems in all circumstances.
