Fallkniven X-series Survival Knife S1x

Great Knife. Very robust and quality is excellent. If buying this remember it is a "survival" knife, so good at chopping wood and batoning, average at feathersicking, not so good at wood whittling or carving (it can still do it, just not so good), and pretty terrible at food prep (when carrying a knife like this, I also carry a smaller, thinner bladed knife for finer camp chores). This knife is built like a tank. Spent 2-3 hours batoning wood, wood chopping and feathersticking with it on an outdoor weekend a few weeks ago. Awesome. After two days of outdoor chores, it still had a good "working" edge, but obviously no longer razor sharp. A few minutes with a field strop and the edge improved greatly, however I did notice some micro-chipping of the edge. It took only 10 minutes to grind these chips out with a field sharpening stone and another 5 minutes stropping to get it back to its razor sharp edge (very easy to sharpen I found). The handle is on the thin side and can be a bit tedious after some time, but I found using it wearing gloves improved the feel. Love the sheath with the locking tab, which secures the knife excellently. Can be carried with or without a dangler (I prefer to carry a knife lower down, so use a dangler). Knife still rattles a little in the sheath regardless of being locked in or not. For a good, high quality, "mid" sized survival knife that can also do other camp chores, if needs must, I highly recommend.

Same iconic F1 shape in the best steel yet from Fallkniven (looking forward to an Elmax version). Slightly asymmetrical lamination line, but the edge is still 3G. Great spine for firesteel use, edge retention superior to other steels. Haven't sharpened it yet, but should be fine with diamond stones. A great knife at good price!
