Nitecore RCR123A Li-ionbattery (NL166)

The Nitecore 16340 650mAh rechargeable battery (NL166) with protection (protected). It can be charged in a compatible Li-Ion charger. Li-ion technology provides one of the best ratios of stored energy to cell weight. Batteries do not have a memory effect and self-discharge is minimal.

Battery protection can be divided into two areas. In the first, electronic circuits are added to prevent overcharging the cell (a situation where there is a risk of explosion with traditional li-ion batteries) or, conversely, over-discharging it (the battery would then not be rechargeable). In addition, these circuits protect the battery against short circuits or high current draw, which could damage the battery. If the battery's electronics detect reaching the limit values, the cell is disconnected. In the second area, there is protection against overheating (PTC thermal protection) and a special explosion-proof valve. Unlike other valves used in li-ion batteries, this one, when the gas pressure in the cell exceeds a certain limit, separates the electrodes inside the battery, effectively interrupting the exothermic reaction and releasing the gas pressure outside the battery. Thanks to the combination of electronic and mechanical (thermal and pressure) protection, the Nitecore battery is one of the safest available li-ion batteries.

By its size, the battery corresponds to the RCR123A disposable lithium CR123A battery, so it is often used in flashlights as a rechargeable alternative to these disposable cells.
